King Teddy's music reflects the brief period when swing was becoming early rock and roll. The sound combines the hip Vegas feel of Louis Prima's band with the smooth vocals of Sam Cooke and Paul McCartney - the result is infectious and original music that just makes you feel good.
King Teddy's three core members met at work and started playing together in late 2000. Their music was embraced by the local swing community in Washington DC (and beyond), who had this to say about their first recording:
"...strong with a sweetly retro feel. It had me bopping around the living room..." --Twist List
"They swing-- get the disc!" --Jitterbuzz
"...an amazing sound, King Teddy should pat itself on the back for its authenticity and originality." --mp3.washingtonpost.com
"In the land of swing, this Teddy would be King." --Montgomery County Gazette
"…righteous melodies and classic rhythms…" --Port Halcyon
Mike Sottong leads King Teddy-- his soaring tenor is compared to the likes of Paul McCartney, Little Richard and Harry Connick, Jr. Mike is also the principal songwriter.
