Bio: Peg Delaney plays sophisticated piano jazz, drawing from American, Latin and Brazilian idioms. She leads her own combos, accompanies many jazz vocalists, and started the group Jazz Voices. Her desire to learn more about improvisation led her to transcribe several solos by saxophonist Nick Brignola. This project became a book which is sold internationally through Jamey Aebersold and Dorn Publication and is on the New York State Music Teachers Association adjudication list and recognized by the National Jazz Educators Association. She has three recordings under her name, The Island Suite (1993), If I had You (2002) with Bill Delaney, bass and Earl Davis, vocals and drums, and Hotline (2004) with a quartet, featuring the guitarist Cary DeNigris, who is a regular with Chico Hamilton, her nephew Gregg August on bass and Mike DeMarco, on drums.
She has been a two-time recipient of the New York State Council for the Arts Meet the Composer Award and was a semifinalist in the Musician Magazine Best Unsigned Band Competition for her recording The Island Suite (1993). She recorded as a sideman on Joe Finn's Straight Ahead (1992) and Josh Greenberg's Mother Goose Jazz Band Go with the Flow (1994), a band that performed at the IAJE convention in NYC. She was awarded the Swingtime Lifetime Achievement Award as pianist and educator and taught class study of jazz piano and private jazz piano lessons at Saratoga’s Skidmore College in the fall of ‘05.
