American singer/songwriter Steve Shaw continues to evolve with his songwriting and recording direction. Shaw writes from a very personal level, as his songs are filled with both pain and understanding; hope and despair. He questions spirituality, religion, and politics. Raised in a middle-class, Catholic family that was deeply rooted in the union trades, Shaw often champions the working class and the social aspects of the poor versus the rich; the powerful versus the powerless. With songs covering the spectrum of almost every genre, Shaw's songs contain an earthy feel, mixing in strong country influences such as Townes Van Zandt, smart melodies such as The Shins, and universal appeal such as The Beatles. Lyrically Shaw is always interesting, but really the best way to hear them is framed in one of Shaw’s outstanding melodies.
