Paul Mercer is a pioneer in the art of layered composition, creating post-classical soundscapes rich in texture and emotion that combine Eastern and Western techniques and modalities. He eschews traditional and MIDI scoring in favor of organic instruments carefully recorded. By playing almost all of the parts in a composition himself, he is able to manipulate the finest details of musical performance in a way that traditional composers using studio orchestras or computer instruments cannot. His work has been featured in over thirty films and he has performed live in as many countries, from San Francisco's Edwardian Ball to Anne Rice's annual halloween party in New Orleans to the courtyards of great castles in Poland and France for some of Europes' largest summer music festivals. When not touring, he resides in Atlanta, Ga.
