Bio:
J Scott Bergman was born in New Jersey and raised in Southern California. His music is often inspired by personal events and spiritual philosophy. Described as exceptional pop rock songwriting with an acoustic vibe, it's understated with a very distinctive vocal style. Influenced by David Gray, Nick Drake, Bono, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, and the Beatles, J Scott Bergman continues to evolve with mysteriously evocative songs of love and hope.
The album "From Here" represents the beginning of a breakthrough. Subtle but powerful, it is a happy record that burns through a dark disguise. A musical reflection of personal revelation, this self-produced disc took its place as the third installment in a trilogy of solo records that began as a personal catharsis; after the demise of J Scott Bergman's former band, SOMETHING IRIS.
The next album, "Maybes Are Fading," is a collection of beautiful songs reflective of lost loves and the turns experienced on life's unfolding journey. There are songs of poignant breakthroughs and happy surrender. A combination of violins, modern singer/songwriter acoustic rock, and a unique smoky edge on a new folk sound: J Scott Bergman was backed up by leading industry musicians and received critical acclaim. In 2002 he toured Northern Europe. He placed as a finalist in the 2003 Acoustic Live competition in Los Angeles and has won songwriting awards from The John Lennon Songwriting and Great American Song contests. In addition, in 2004 his work placed as a runner-up in the VH1 sponsored Song Of The Year contest. He also won "Outstanding Achievement In Songwriting Award" in the Great American Song Contest. The song "Wonderful Thing" spent a month in the top 20 most played singles on XM Radio's Station 52: from September through October 2005.
At times soulful and sonically more dynamic than it's predecessors, the latest album "Ours Is the Time," deals with the importance of changing ways of thinking when old habits no longer serve us: a celebration of survival, truth, self-awareness and solitude without regret. With pop sensibilities in full-force and guest appearances by musicians from Beck, Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple’s touring and studio bands, the album covers a breadth of aural landscapes: a thoughtfully woven tapestry of folk, modern rock, bluesy jazz, and lush romantic ballads. The arrangements are solid columns of sound, yet purposefully sparse: letting the acoustic vibe and distinctive voice of the artist shine through. Soon to be released in late 2007, "Ours Is The Time" will be available at CDBaby and at http://www.jscottbergman.com .
J Scott Bergman releases his material through his own independent "Bergmusic" label and is currently living in Los Angeles. For press inquiries and booking information, please call 323-939-1632 or email: info@jscottbergman.com .
