Humor. Harmony. A heavy dose of irony.
Jason Dean''s winsome combination of raw innocence and world-weariness feels like a plush bed of pins and feathers. The sting and the caress are equally compelling. With his pure, soulful tenor, Jason guides his infectious songs over varied musical terrain.
Singer/songwriter, mouthpiece of socially conscious rockers Puddy Tat, childrens composer, rock opera conceptualistJason has worn each of these hats in his relentless pursuit of musical nirvana.
Jasons guerilla theatre incarnation, Musical Mayhem Players, presented three musicals for which Jason wrote the book and music. Schizophonic Frenzy won the L.A. InnerCity Cultural Centers Playwright Award in 1998. The group also originated the hybrid musical, presenting Oklahoma Hair! and Rocky Horror Music Man.
Jason formed Puddy Tat in the summer before the 2004 presidential election, releasing the incendiary anti-Bush indictment In Shambles (A Cowboy Loose on the Range). LA Weekly praised the song as a musically excellent XTC-ish pop mini-symphony. The song was liberally distributed at the Democratic National Convention in Boston. In fall 2005, Puddy Tat completed the EP Not Declawed, continuing where their Rock the Regime Change 2004 campaign left off. A new Puddy Tat disc, "Back to the Scratching Post," was planned to coincide with the 2008 election season.
His self-released debut, Joy in Mudville (2000), established Jason as a songwriter with a keen sense of wordplay and a fresh perspective. In 2007, Jason completed work on a new record, Where's Jason? Inside Washer!, which remains unreleased.
Born in Bay City, MI, Jason came to California with a college pal who was haunted by Lake Michigan surfing dreams. Before long, Jason was sucked into the L.A. rip tide to ply his craft.
Jasons songs have been heard on MTV and A&E programming.
