Bobby Weiss is a singer/songwriter/guitarist from Woodstock, NY. He has fronted a number of upstate NY bands, such as PAJAMAZON and Albany’s FaT MooKeN, whose musical style is energetic, radio-ready power pop. An upbeat sound that one critic describes as having “enough hooks to win over even the most jaded listener”. Bobby is currently a member of the area’s most popular hard rock band Pillowface, where he is the lead singer and co-author of much of the material. This powerful quartet offers intense, melodic hard rock delivered with high-energy performances, passionate vocals, rib-cracking guitar and a lock-tight rhythm section.
Bobby grew up in a Show Business family. His father, George David Weiss (Songwriter’s Hall of Fame inductee and former president of the Songwriter’s Guild of America), is known for having written such pop standards as “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, and “What a Wonderful World”. In 1994, a father and son collaboration produced the album Jambo! Africa, which was released and distributed by Sony/Red Dragon Records. Bobby sang lead on the album and appeared as the artist.
PAJAMAZON’s award-winning website at pajamazon.com is still well-traveled by music lovers from every corner of the globe, revealing the enthusiasm these cyber-fans have for Bobby’s music. The songs “Baby Tee”, “Feels Like 17” and “Used” were among the most downloaded in the power pop genre on the original MP3.com, with “Used” also catching the attention of many ska fans.
In January 2006, Pillowface completed work on a new full length album entitled “Trust” that was recorded at Applehead Studios in Woodstock, NY with producer Bill Eisele and engineers Chris Bittner and Michael Birnbaum (Chris and Michael produced major label artist Coheed & Cambria among others). The cd boasts 11 songs and as one reviewer states, will “tear your head off”. It is available online at cdbaby.com, for download at itunes.com, and at all live performances. It is currently being shopped by the band’s management for major label distribution.
Pillowface’s growing popularity is evidenced by the ever-increasing attendance of their live performances and hits to their web pages, and the in-person and online sales of their music and merchandise prove that the band is well on their way to surpassing their status as upstate New York’s best band and becoming the powerful and successful national act they are destined to be. They have performed with national acts Powerman 5000, Breaking Benjamin, Saliva, Eve 6, 3 Doors Down, Shinedown, Sponge, Socialburn, White Light Motorcade, Y&T and Joey Belladonna among others, as well as headlining their own shows at a variety of venues.
Over the years Bobby’s performances, always charismatic and energetic have entertained audiences at venues all over NY’s Capital Region and Hudson Valley, New York City, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Connecticut, sharing the stage with a variety of local, regional and national acts. He even performed with and orchestra in Manila, Philippines, but that’s another story! With the support of radio stations such as 103.5-103.9 WQBK and 104.9 The Edge in Albany, as well as 100.1 WDST Radio Woodstock, Bobby’s music has continued to win over legions of die-hard fans. Recently WDST added PAJAMAZON’s “Baby Tee” to their official playlist (the first song added by an unsigned artist in a number of years), and has had Bobby in the studio on numerous occasions to perform on the weekly shows “Retroactive” and “Woodstock Round Table”.
