Bio: The Ben reel band are based in Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan, Ireland.

The debut album ‘THIS IS THE MOVIE’ was released in the spring of 1999 to rave reviews and high critical acclaim. The album got some major airplay around Ireland from 2fm &BBC radio Ulster to name a few and sold over 2000 copies nationwide from self distribution and sales at gigs.

A 3 track E.P ‘EXORSISE ME’ was released in the spring of 2000 as a taster for the 2nd album ‘LOST IN THE HAZE’ released in Nov 2001 which, like the first album was recorded in ‘The ATTIC STUDIO’ in Monaghan town under the guidance of’ Tommy Flack’ and ‘Ronnie O,Flynn’.
In this period the band appeared on ‘The John Daly Show’, BBC1 N.Ireland & numerous appearance on BBC Choice digital TV & TG4.
They have supported the likes of ‘JOOLS HOLLAND’ in the ‘Waterfront Hall’ in Belfast to a crowd of 7000 people, ‘MICHAEL BALL’ in the Odessy Arena ,’THE CRANBERRIES’ in the Ulster Hall. Ben Reel himself has had the honour of playing with ‘IAN JURY,S’ band the ‘BLOCKHEADS’ performing together the now infamous song U PEOPLE in Dingwalls in london
He also has recently collaborated with award winning saxaphonist GILAD ATZMON and his band recording ‘U PEOPLE’ the make politicians history anthem (co-written with London,s most eccentric idealist ‘Rainbow George” which the video of the song was shown 5 times in one day on BBC 1 N.Ireland as a party political broadcast for the last Westminster elections. Ben has shared a bill in 2004 with the ‘ALABAMA 3’(sopranos fame)in London,s Mau Mau club, Ben has also toured in NewYork,’Las Vegas,’San Francisco,Phoenix, Copenhagen to name a few.

In 2004, the ‘BEN REEL BAND’ at the peak of it’s powers released their third and current album ‘SWEET VICTORY’, consisting of fourteen original tracks under ben,s own independent label ‘B.REEL MUSIC’.The album received high critical acclaim and a lot of airplay including “BOB HARRIS bbc radio 2,plus favourable reveiws in various countries eg.UK, HOLLAND(where they have a secured a distribution deal) even as far as AUSTRALIA. This record showed a musical maturity and progression. The songs are of a soulful and spiritual nature which carry a powerful message to the listener. The line up of the band at present is as follows /Ben Reel”vocals,guitar,harmonica ”Michael Black’on Drums/Ronnie O’Flynn on Bass/Julieanne Black’on backing vocals, Micky McCarney’&Gerald Black on lead guitar,”and guest on the record John McCullogh on keyboards . These musicians are regarded and respected among the cream of the country and are a must-see live to be appreciated fully.

Febuary 2007 will see the release of the 4th studio album,(NEW HORIZON) . It promises to be a little different from previous albums,with a more rootsie,bluesy,Americana rock feel to it. The band have developed a unique chilled out westcoast sound. Bringing real music back to the people in an age of the coporate manufactured mundane.
