Marty Namaro is an accomplished and versatile multi-instrumentalist (piano, drums, and bass), composer, arranger, and educator. A native of Toronto, Canada, he is a second generation musician, who began his professional career at the ripe old age of 16.
Marty’s father, a studio musician for CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Radio and an accomplished musician in his own right, exposed him to many different types of music, from a very early age everything from jazz to Latin to classical. Some of Marty’s influences have been Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Elvin Jones, and Mongo Santamaria, just to name a few.
Marty’s CD, “Abstractionisms”, features him on piano and drums, and he has also been honored by having his music included on the first all Jazz Sampler of Toronto Indie Artists, which was released in 2006. Always finding inspiration from the world around him, Marty is constantly composing new music, so, at the moment, he probably has enough original material to produce about 5 or 6 more CDs!
In addition to performing in many venues across Canada and the U.S., and after living and performing, for the past 23 years, in and around L.A., San Diego, and the San Francisco Bay Area, Marty recently returned to Toronto. He can be seen performing there as a solo pianist and as the leader of one of the many configurations of The Marty Namaro “Group”, which can be as small as a duo and as large as a sextet.
