Liz Skillman and Joaquim are an NYC-based trio that melodic alt-rock songs that have been described as "great modern pop" using "haunting, lyrical imagery".
Skillman, a native of Washington DC, began playing music in a 1997 4-track recording session at a friend''s Lower East Side Manhattan apartment. All evidence of the session was stolen two days later when the apartment was broken into (for the second time in one month!), but Liz kept playing.
Two years later she started Joaquim along with drummer Ted Marcus and bass player Kevin Mackall after the three played a Pajama Party at East Village watering hole Nightingale. The three have since become a fixture on the downtown Manhattan music scene.
In the Middle, the label and band''s debut release, was released on Hermione Records in 2001. It met with extremely favorable response from radio and press, including two weeks in the Top 5 on WHTG 106.3 FM''s now defunct Sunday night Underground Rock show.
In the summer of 2002, Liz Skillman & Joaquim released ''Wayphoria'' to increasing critical acclaim, with BestFemaleMusicians.Com giving it an "A+... [Wayphoria] is a great listen from beginning to end and will hopefully bring the band the critical acclaim they rightfully deserve."
