Michael Waltrip hoists the Harley J. Earl Daytona 500 trophy into the air after defeating his teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., in the Daytona 500. It was Waltrip's first NASCAR Cup Series triumph and first outing for DEI.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Hershey's Take 5 300 NASCAR Busch Series (now Nationwide) in a Chevrolet, after starting eigth in his No. 8 car. He made only four starts that year, winning twice.
