School of manini / Convict Surgeonfish on Maldives - stock video
School of Convict Surgeonfish on coral reef - Maldives. The manini (Acanthurus triostegus) is a small surgeonfish in family Acanthuridae of the order Perciformes. It is about 13 centimetres (5.1 in) long. It is whitish-yellow with zebra-like black stripes on its sides. It is also known as Convict Tang. This species is possibly the most numerous in the surgeonfish family, Acanthuridae. It is widely distributed in tropical Pacific and Indo-Pacific waters. The convict part of the common name of these fish results from the resemblance of the black bands on their creamy-white bodies to the striped uniforms once worn by prison convicts.
