Political Unrest Across Kenya Before Election

VOICED: Kenyans go to the polls this week amid fears of a return to political unrest and violence. There are claims that thousands of armed herders have been told they can seize more territory once the result comes in. The country is in the east of Africa, It's proximity between Somalia and Sudan makes it of strategic importance in the fight against Islamic extremism. The British army has a base and trains in the country. More than 20 million people are eligible to vote in the election later this week. The race is between incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta and his opposition rival Raila Odinga. But the vote has been marred by fears of potential violence. There have been a number of attacks and recent land invasions in the North as drought took hold. And following the 2007 elections thousands died in the political unrest. Any unrest in the country could ripple outwards across the continent and towards Europe, as our foreign affairs editor Sam Kiley reports from Laikipia.
