Guardian newspaper editor claims that Whitehall ordered him to destroy hard drives

Guardian newspaper editor claims that Whitehall ordered him to destroy hard drives; Alan Rusbridger (Guardian Newspaper editor) interview SOT - when started publishing the Snowden material somebody from government got in touch and said he was speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister ..for a while it was a reasonable conversation but there came a point where it was accompanied by a direct ultimatum that if we didn't hand the material back or destroy it, it would go to law - (on deleting of hard drives) it was one of the more bizarre days in the Guardian's history / we insisted that we would destroy it and they said we would like somebody to supervise that destruction - they took it on trust that the computers we showed them were the computers that we had been using - very talented engineers inside the NSA and GCHQ are getting way ahead of the law
