Both men are wearing traditional Mongolian garb known as a deel, including hats to keep the intense sun off of them and a bright orange sash cinched at the waist so that they can been seen from a distance against the vast landscape.Karakorum became an established city in 1220 when Genghis Khan began to use the Orkhon Valley to rally his troops. It then became the capital of the Mongol Empire during the 13th century.
