The statue, designed by the sculptor João de Sousa Alão and pulled from the granite of Porto by the hand of the master bricklayer João da Silva, was created in 1818, with the aim of overlapping the old palace building of the county, which was in Praça Nova, today Praça Of Freedom. The building was demolished to open Avenida dos Aliados, and O Porto, recovered from the facade, walked through various places of the city, before being placed in the Sé's yard, next to the House of 24, as part of the project of Requalification of the architect Fernando Távora. in Porto Portugal
