A line of people walk on river ice beneath snow capped Himalayan peaks. During winter, in order to get to boarding school in Leh, Zanskari children must walk for 5 days down the frozen Zanskar river. Known to outsiders as the Chadar frozen river trek (Chadar trek, Zanskar ice trek), each year, hundreds of Ladakhi people make this walk on the ice from their remote mountain homes in the Zanskar Valley down the frozen Zanskar River to the beginning of the nearest motorable road in the area.
