Old Station Town of Central Japan - stock photo
Narai-juku, old station town at Kisoji, Nagano Prefecture.Nakasendo is the name of an old and famous trade route with 69 stations between Kyoto (Capital) and Edo (old Tokyo) during Edo period (1603-1868). Some of these small station towns have been preserved in the mountains of Nagano and Gifu Prefectures in central Japan along a part of the route, which is known as Kisoji. People still live in the old houses and inns along the historic Nakasendo road with lots of restaurants and shops selling local foods, crafts and souvenirs. Here are some photos that I took in November 2013 in three station towns there called Narai-juku, Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku.
