The Basilica is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain.The Basilica, that venerates Virgin Mary, under her title Our Lady of the Pillar, was built between 1681 and 1872, in baroque style.It is known as the first church dedicated to Mary in history: tradition says that the Virgin appeared to Saint James (Santiago in Spanish), the apostle who preached and brought Christianity to Spain. This occurred in January, 40 AD, and is the only known apparition before the Assumption of Mary.
