Caption: This tramp steamer's cargo of lumber as seen from the passenger deck. This shot was taken on the Pacific Ocean en route to the Panama Canal while traversing to La Harve, France, in 1937. The Berganger was reportedly built in 1932 and was of Norwegian registry out of Bergen, Norway. It was sunk in 1942 by a German U-boat. It carried 13 paying passengers in addition to its cargo on this particular trip.
