KENYA-CULTURE-TRADITION-MAASAI

Young Maasai warriors or 'Morans' celebrate by dancing as they arrive at Mount Suswa in Kenya on December 20, 2012. Mount Suswa is a sacred place for the Maasai tribe and every 10 years Maasai from all over Kenya gather to witness the coming of age ceremony for the Morans known as an 'Age Set'. The 'age set' sees Morans achieving the status of manhood in their communities' eyes. Before this coming of age ceremony Morans must traditionally be circumcised and spend up to 4 years in the wilderness with a group of around 10 or less to fend for themselves and put into practice hunting techniques and life skills passed on by their elders.
