John Foster Dulles Entering Press Conference

(Original Caption) With full knowledge that he was in for a rugged session, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles marched down the aisle of the State Department auditorium, smiling and completely at ease. Facing the most jam-packed press conference of his career, Mr. Dulles declared that the controversial article in Life magazine which set off a barrage of criticism about what was called our "brink of war" foreign policy, gave him too much credit for avoiding war, oversimplified and overemphasized some red-hot international issues and told nothing new. Mr. Dulles has been under fire since the article appeared a week ago.
