Walkers on the Tangariro Alpine Crossing. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a 7-8 hour hike traversing two active volcanoes within the Tongariro National Park, North Island, New Zealand. It is considered to be the best one day hike in New Zealand and in the top 10 one day hikes in the world. Packed into the 19.4km hike is an array of diverse landscapes and vegetations.
