ISRAEL-EGYPT-ARCHAEOLOGY-SPHINX

Volunteers of the Hebrew University work during an excavation in the Northern Israeli archeological site of the ancient Tel Hazor, where they found the remains of a Sphinx with a hieroglyphic inscription between its paws dating circa 3rd century BCE, on July 9 2013. The Sphinx was sculpted for Egyptian King Mycerinus, one of the builders of the Giza pyramids, and this is the first time ever a statue dedicated to Mycerinus has been uncovered, and the first time such a finding has been unearthed in the Levant.
