UNITED KINGDOM - MAY 09: The Minor was designed by Alex Issigonis who later designed the Mini. Contemporary American styling influenced its slightly bulbous shape but it had a rigid unitary construction body/chassis unit (monocoque body). The independent front suspension used torsion springing and rack and pinion steering. Early vehicles of this type had been powered by a 918cc side valve engine, but were later fitted in 1952 with the 803cc overhead valve A series engine, which increased to 948cc in the Morris 1000. 1,582,302 Minors were produced, with the millionth being built in the first week of January, 1961, an occasion marked by a limited production run of 350 of the cars in lilac with �Minor 100000� badges.
