Caption: ASWAN DAM, EGYPT-AUGUST 28, 2012: The Aswan Dam was completed in 1970 at a cost of $1 billion. The dam reaches 364 ft (111 meter) high and is a rockfill dam or embankment dam that controls the flow of the world’s longest river the Nile. Water from the Nile River is collected in Lake Nasser which is the world’s third largest reservoir. Commonly referred to as the High Dam after the 1950’s this portion was completed between 1960 and 1970 to control annual flooding and generate electricity.
