The lightly armoured 4x4 vehicles, known as 'snatch' Land Rovers were particularly vulnerable to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and were later replaced with much larger, heavier, but less manoeuvrable trucks. The twin engine Chinook helicopters were the fastest in the British fleet, with a maximum speed of over 160 miles per hour.
