The buyback program, the largest in the city's history, will offer up to $200 value for a working handgun, $75 for a rifle and a higher rate of payment for a weapon determined to be an assault-type rifle. There was strong turnout for the event with many residents turning in guns they haven't used in years. Following the massacre of children and adults at a school in Newtown, Connecticut last week, numerous Connecticut towns and cities are trying to get more guns off the street.
