PORTSMOUTH, NH - JANUARY 15: On Tuesday, Jan. 15, at approximately 9 a.m., the new 300-foot-long south span was moved from the Port Authority Pier and traveled down river and in place between pier 1 and 2, on the Portsmouth side. With the use of tugboats and a temporary jacking system, the span was positioned and then lowered onto the new piers. This is the first of three sections that will create the new Memorial Bridge. Workers adjust the lines holding the barge close to the pier. The span must be brought down to within one quarter inch of the abutment before the barge can be taken away.
