HERMOSILLO, Sonora - JULY 19: Milton Tepeyac, 37, picks up a few groceries to pack home in Hermosillo, Mexico on July 20, 2013. The city of roughly 750-thousand people is now home for former U.S. Marine. Though born in Mexico, he spent most of his life living and working in the United States on a green card. At age 17 he joined the Marine Corp for nine years but never got around to applying for citizenship. He was automatically deported to Mexico in April after serving time for a felony drug conviction. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1996 broadened it so that green card holders would be automatically deported if found guilty of an aggravated felony. Had Tepeyac applied for citizenship and been approved, he never would've been deported after serving time. Currently, he lives in a meager, studio apartment and makes a minimal living wage of $150 USD / week as a bilingual call center in Hermosillo.
