XINJIANG, CHINA, MAY : May, 1995, Thousand Buddha caves, Kyzyl, Xinjiang, Eastern Turkestan, China. Holding a light bulb, photographer Reza is leaning over the remains of a Buddha statue in the new cave n°1. The art piece is placed along the second chamber's back wall. Only the sculpture's rims are intact. The rest crumbled, victim of the rush provoked by the discovery in 1989. The highest Chinese authorities have rushed to the site to get their photo taken.
