Long time Red Sox catcher and former team captain Jason Varitek announced his retirement from baseball during a ceremony held at home plate of JetBlue Park this afternoon. Many former teammates were in attendance, including, from left to right: pitcher John Lackey, the man who replaced him as the Red Sox starting catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, pitcher Jon Lester, and pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.
