In 1911 the first motion picture was made in a suburb of Los Angeles, South California, since then Hollywood, or 'Tinsel Town' so called because of its glitter and high lifestyle, has produced thousands of films and millions of headlines. Even though most movies are shot on location in cities and countries around the world Hollywood remains the symbolic heart of the US motion picture industry. For every star there are 10,000 wannabes who annually flock to the area in search of the American dream. Tourists also descend in their thousands to Hollywood Boulevard, Grauman's Chinese Theatre and its Walk of Fame, the Hollywood sign, and to stare at the homes of their celebrity heroes in Beverley Hills. 'Tinsel Town' makes 400 feature films a year, but the porn industry based in the nearby San Fernando Valley churns out 11,000 productions which generate billions of dollars for the adult sex entertainment business.
