This breaks the previous World Record and Race Record for a monohull set by Volvo 70 Groupama, in 2010, by 1 day, 08 hours, 16 minutes and 27 seconds. Their record is subject to ratification by the World Speed Sailing Record Council. The Volvo Ocean Race will start from Alicante in Spain on October 04, 2014, the 38,739-nautical mile route includes stopovers in Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itaja (Brazil), Newport, RI,(USA), Lisbon (Portugal) and Lorient (France).
