Thousands of men left a poor county in southern China to seek fortunes as gold miners in Africa -- but their families are terrified after deadly clashes and arrests forced many to go into hiding. Men from Shanglin began traveling to Ghana around a decade ago, after mastering mining technology in the 1990s while pioneering the exploitation of gold reserves in China's cold northeast.
