CHINA-AFRICA-MINING

In a photo taken on June 10, 2013 former miner Li Shubo displays the injuries he sustained during an armed robbery while wworking in the west African country of Ghana, at a cafe in the town of Shanglin in southwestern China's Guangxi province. Thousands of men left a poor county in southern China to seek fortunes as gold miners in Africa -- but their families are terrified after deadly clashes and arrests forced many to go into hiding. Men from Shanglin began traveling to Ghana around a decade ago, after mastering mining technology in the 1990s while pioneering the exploitation of gold reserves in China's cold northeast.
