The Commission is investigating the NSU murder series, in which a trio of neo-Nazis calling themselves the National Socialist Underground murdered a total of nine immigrants and one policewoman between 2000 and 2007, as well as detonating two bombs in immigrant-heavy districts in Cologne. The case has developed into the biggest German law enforcement embarassement and scandal in modern German history because police failed to pursue a right-wing motive o the crimes.
