Gonelle, a long time political rival of Cahuzac and influential personality in the Lot et Garonne region, has ascended local politcal lader since 1977 and not without making enemies. Cahuzac resigned yesterday after prosecutors announced a probe into a Swiss bank account he allegedly used to hide assets from the tax authorities.
