A female stone labourer
A female stone labourer, about to unload a shovel of sand and stones into the basket on the back of another one, at the Kotre point in Seti River. Stone collecting is a job for strong men and women. While men brave the strong current with shovels or buckets women stand neck-deep in water with baskets that gets filled with stones. The baskets weigh more than their body weight ' 70 to 80 kilograms. When there is a demand for work the daily pay is good. One can earn more than 300 to 500 Nepalese Rupees (1 US $ = 73 Nepalese Rupee) depending on the intensity or the demand. Kotre, Nepal. 2010.
