Family members of Jewish Community of Thessaloniki take the diplomas of their ancestors from the Italian Institute of Culture on the occasion of Remembrance Day in Thessaloniki on January 29, 2014. In the Institute were recovered among the papers of the High School Gymnasium, Umberto I - school Italian that the 1930s was located in the same building that now houses the Institute Italian, 155 degrees of Jewish children never picked up by the interested parties. During World War II, about 54,000 Jews of Thessaloniki were deported to Nazi concentration camps. At the end of the war, the city counted only 2,000 Jews : approximately 98% of the Jewish population, which numbered many Italian families, had been exterminated.
