Residents who dislike the sounds and droppings of the many thousands of migrating and local crows have tried multiple unsuccessful tactics to chase them away during winter months when their numbers swell, including the use of strobe lights and sheet metal by the city, blanks shot by local police and a Starbucks store located in the roosting area playing special music to try to keep them away. Despite a third straight year of unprecedented drought, the crows continue to overrun the town nightly. Winter communal crow roosts have continued to rise in towns and cities since the 1960s when the birds first began abandoning traditionally rural roosts. (Photo by David McNew/Getty Images)
