50 Year Anniversary Of Conquest Of Mount Everest

LUKLA, NEPAL - MAY 25, 2003: A clean up campaign continues on the Everest trail in Lukla May, 25 2003 in the Solu Khumbu region, Nepal. Tin cans are smashed with rocks so that they can be carried out easily and bottles are no longer encouraged in order to limit the amount and the weight of the garbage that collects from all the trekkers. A record 1,000 climbers plan an assault on the summit as mountaineers celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the conquest of Everest. The Golden Jubilee marks the conquest of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay who were the first to scale the world's highest mountain, reaching the summit on May 29th, 1953.
