The Chancellor of the Exchequer visited homebuyers and construction workers at the housing development site the day after he announced in his Budget speech the government's measures for assisting first-time buyers and existing home-owners in moving up the property ladder, with a GBP £3.5 billion investment in government loans to financially stretched home-buyers and GBP £12 billion towards a scheme to increase availability of mortgages to first-time buyers unable to afford a large deposit. Homebuyers will be able to borrow up to 20% per cent of the value of most new-build properties interest-free for five years. (Photo by Mark Large - WPA Pool/Getty Images)
