The number of departments in heatwave orange alert was reduced by half, from 16 to 8, announced on August 21, 2012 by the French national meteorological service Meteo, indicating that the heatwave 'is coming to the end.' The eight departments which are still under orange alert are the Ain, Allier, Haute-Garonne, Isere, Loire, Puy-de-Dome, the Rhône and the Tarn.
