BOSNIA-BALKANS-HISTORY-WWII-NERETVA-ANNIVERSARY

A Bosnian boy, dressed as socialist youth (Tito's pioneers), is seen next to a World War II cannon in the Southern-Bosnian town of Jablanica, on May 11, 2013. A crowd of several thousand socialist supporters and sympathisers gathered in Jablanica to commemorate the 70th anniversary of The Battle on the river Neretva, one of the most famous battles of World War II in Yugoslavia. The battle was fought by Tito's Partisans who were vastly outnumbered and outgunned by German forces and their domestic helpers. The Partisans carried a large number of wounded fighters and were followed by several thousands of civillians who were fleeing in front of a German offensive.
