Barbie dolls stand for sale at a toy store in New York, February 3, 2009. Mattel, the world's largest toymaker, reported fourth-quarter earnings that fell far short of Wall Street forecasts. Sales of Mattel's signature Barbie dolls fell by more than 20 percent compared with the fourth quarter of 2007 as the worst holiday shopping season in 40 years pounded toy sales. To celebrate Barbie's 50th birthday on March 9, Mattel said that they would be teaming up with fashion designers Jeremy Scott and Vera Wang to launch a designer clothing brand for humans, complete with a cosmetics range and a glamorous catwalk show at New York fashion week.
