HYATTSVILLE, MD - NOV 23: At the J.C. Penney store, (L) Velita Smith bought a suitcase and a host of kitchen items for her mother who is remodeling her kitchen. She checks a toaster oven that was opened. The items were on sale for $8.00 each - a savings of about 70% for many items. At right is Sozi Yousuf who is loading her toaster ovens and King size pillows she bought for $3.00 each. She came just for the great prices as her family does not celebrate Christmas. The J.C. Penney store opened at 6:00 am today in hopes that a Black Friday rush will help sales that have been sluggish of late. (Photo by Michael S. Williamson/The Washington Post via Getty Images
