An engineer cuts steel in order to replace a missing beam under the burnt-out remains of Hastings Pier in Hastings, southern England, on December 13, 2013 ahead of the start of a multi-million pound regeneration project. Hastings Pier was originally constructed in opulent style in the late 19th century seeing its heyday in the 1930s and hosting music concerts by major artists including The Rolling Stones in the 1960s and 70s. After undergoing various additions and re-construction to repair storm and fire damage throughout the 20th century the Victorian pier finally suffered a devastating fire in 2010 which destroyed much of the superstructure leaving just a burnt out shell. Following a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant and money from other funds a 14 million GBP regeneration project is set to begin work on January 6, 2014. AFP PHOTO / BEN STANSALL
