Aesop's Fables - Dog in the Manger - stock illustration
"The Dog in The Manger." Moral: There would be sunshine in many a poor man's house, but for officious, go-between window-shutters. Someone who has a dog-in-the-manger attitude has something of value that he can't or won't use himself but which he won’t let anybody else have either even though they may benefit from it. Illustration from "The Fables of Aesop and others: Translated into Human Nature" designed and drawn on the wood by Charles H. Bennett, engraved by Swain, published by W. Kent & Co., London, 1857. Bennett was a prolific Victorian illustrator.
