Things to do when the sun's out in London

London doesn't have a reputation for having the best weather, but when the sun does emerge from a long, wet winter, Londoners waste no time getting their shades on and rushing outside to embrace the warmth. Here are our recommendations for things to do in the sun. 

1. eat outside at the Maltby street market

Get your fill of street food or sit in the shade in one of the bars tucked into the arches at Maltby Street market.

Cool down in the water at Brockwell Park’s grade II-listed art deco lido. 

3. stroll along columbia road

Even when the Sunday flower market isn’t on, Columbia Road is packed with independent shops and cafes. 

4. enjoy river view in richmond

9. relax by the barbican terrace

If you’re staying in town, The Barbican’s lake terrace has outdoor space, fountains and the bold Brutalist lines of the Barbican estate to give a bit of shade. 

10. walk through holland park

Or tucked between Kensington and Shepherd’s Bush there’s the surprising seclusion of Holland Park.
